About Buckeye Border Collie Rescue
Founded in 1999, Buckeye Border Collie Rescue (BBCR) is a non-profit organization that is run by volunteers. We are committed to the welfare of Border Collies in need in the Ohio area. The Border Collies are fostered in homes throughout the state of Ohio. The main co-ordination of the rescue group is conducted in Tiffin, in northwest Ohio.
BBCR rescues Border Collies from shelters and accepts owner relinquishments if space permits. When possible with owner relinquishments, BBCR volunteers counsel the owners to keep the Border Collie in their home. Border Collie mixes are accepted as space allows. At times, a Border Collie mix is more appropriate for a responsible pet home where the intensity of a Border Collie is not appropriate.
BBCR updates vaccinations, tests and treats for heartworm and spays or neuters all Border Collies prior to placement. Border Collies are fostered in our homes and evaluated for social habits and activity levels. Applications are required to adopt a Border Collie from BBCR. Once the applicant is approved, the appropriate Border Collie is matched and an adoption visit in Tiffin, Ohio is scheduled. Adopted Border Collies are placed with a contract for a designated adoption donation.
BBCR is not a facility open to the public. The BCs are fostered in our homes. Appointments must be made in advance and only AFTER the application and approval process.
BBCR operates from donations, fundraisers and adoptions to help defray the costs of rescue. The time and some of the expenses for foster care, phone calls and transports is supported through the dedication of the volunteers. Most of the BBCR volunteers work full-time jobs and maintain a balanced household. Please keep this in mind when you begin the application process. The process may take a week or so to get underway. Please be patient.

Effective immediately, a non-refundable processing fee of $10 is required for each application. Our rescue has a commitment to our applicants to thoroughly process each application to understand their environment and home. It greatly helps in the decision to match the appropriate dog and home for the benefit of everyone involved. This commitment involves calls to the vet and references, the home visit (drive time, visit time and report time), the time to select candidates & the time to discuss candidates with the applicant. Processing of the application will begin after the fee is received and cleared. Payment can be made via Paypal to buckeyebcr @ thewavz.com or by check to Buckeye Border Collie Rescue and mailed to the PO Box in the end of the application.
Our process includes:

3. Meeting with a BBCR volunteer in your home.

5. Adopting a great Border Collie that is suited for your environment and needs! The fun part right?!
You will need to travel to Tiffin, OH, with your 2- and 4-footed family to meet any potential adoptees. We do not ship dogs.
All of our dogs are spayed/neutered, up-to-date on vaccinations, heartworm negative and on preventative. They are fostered in the homes of the volunteers where they are evaluated for general health and temperament. Our fee is usually $250 (may be higher in certain cases).
We are volunteers with full-time jobs and normal responsibilities just like you have. In addition, we have the rescue fosters to tend to, vet visits to make and transports necessary to get BCs from shelters and into foster homes. Please be patient as this process -- from the time BBCR receives the application to the time the applicant adopts the dog -- may take 2-3 weeks.
